Have you ever encountered someone in your professional life who seemed charming at first, but turned out to be a bit too self-centred for comfort? This week on the podcast we're diving deep into the world of narcissism with my guest, the insightful Lindsay Ruiz who has deep experience in this area and focused her doctorate in organisational development and change around narcissistic behaviour. Together, we unravel the complexities of narcissistic behaviour and its impact on the workplace. It's a conversation filled with personal stories and research that will arm you with the knowledge to navigate these tricky waters.

Press play for a thoughtful exploration of the human psyche, the complexities of workplace dynamics and the nuances of narcissism.

Why you should listen: Leadership promotion systems validate narcissism

  • Narcissistic leaders leave the team behind

We explore navigating narcissism in leadership

  • The pursuit of leadership power above all else

  • Beware the bait and switch - a narcissist’s favourite leadership move

  • Suffering in silence - the difficult dynamics of exposing narcissism

Take action

  •  Really dig into how we choose our leaders: How do we manage promotions? How do we recognise leadership? How do we select for talent, and what kind of behaviours get rewarded in organisations?

Tip of the week

I explore narcissism in my book People Stuff and one of the biggest challenges is in identifying a narcissist. In the book I describe them as someone who lacks empathy and a sense of others. Their primary concern is for themselves so one way to identify them is through their relationship with blame shifting - especially when there’s a failure.
